Suspended Police Constable and Driver Arrested for Robbing Builder in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
In a shocking incident from Maharashtra, a police constable currently under suspension has been arrested along with his driver for allegedly robbing a builder from Latur. The Jawahar Nagar police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar took the accused into custody late on Sunday, following a complaint filed by the victim.
Details of the Accused and the Crime
The arrested individuals have been identified as 28-year-old constable Vishnu Suresh Nangude, also known as Vishnu Patil, and 30-year-old Ramesh Shinde, who served as his driver. According to police reports, the duo targeted the complainant, Madhur Chitte, and his doctor wife as they were returning to the city by car on the evening of April 19.
The incident unfolded around 9 PM on Sevenhills Road when Nangude abruptly stopped his vehicle, causing a minor rear-end collision with Chitte's car. Despite Chitte offering to share contact details and compensate for the damage, citing his wife's urgent need to report to the hospital, the accused refused to cooperate.
Escalation of Threats and Robbery
Police officials stated that the accused followed the couple to the Garkheda area, where they waylaid their car and began issuing threats. Nangude allegedly kicked the vehicle, damaged its rearview mirror, and attempted to assault the occupants. To further intimidate the victims, he falsely claimed to be a sub-inspector.
Under duress, Chitte was forced to transfer Rs40,000 online to the accused. Additionally, the duo snatched a gold chain and a mobile phone from the victims. They also issued death threats, warning the wife against returning to the city.
Legal Proceedings and Arrests
A case was registered against Nangude and Shinde on Monday, leading to their subsequent arrest. They were produced before the court on Tuesday and have been remanded in police custody for further investigation. This incident highlights concerns about misconduct within law enforcement, especially involving officers already under suspension.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural police are continuing their probe into the matter, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges against the accused constable and his accomplice.
