Suspended Pune Police Constable Arrested in Andhra Pradesh in Cheating Case
In a significant development, suspended police constable Ganesh Jagtap was apprehended from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh late on Sunday night. The arrest pertains to a cheating case registered against him, marking the culmination of a nearly three-year evasion of law enforcement.
Police Team Led by Senior Inspector Makes the Arrest
A dedicated police team, under the leadership of senior inspector Rahul Khilare from the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, successfully located and arrested Jagtap. Pune commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar emphasized that Jagtap was suspended immediately after the case was filed but consistently failed to appear before the inquiry committee, highlighting his disregard for departmental procedures.
Multiple Cheating Cases and Evasion Tactics
Deputy commissioner of police Milind Mohite provided detailed insights into the case. He revealed that a cheating case was registered against Jagtap three months ago at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. Additionally, similar allegations of cheating have been filed against him at the Kothrud and Chatushrungi police stations, indicating a pattern of fraudulent behavior.
Jagtap had been evading arrest for almost three years, constantly relocating to avoid detection. The breakthrough came when the police team traced a phone number operational from Kadapa. Acting swiftly, personnel traveled to Andhra Pradesh and secured his arrest without delay.
Details of the Cheating Allegation
The core of the case involves Jagtap cheating a resident of the Bharati Vidyapeeth area out of Rs 16 lakh. He borrowed this substantial sum but refused to repay it. Instead, he arrogantly told the lender that no harm could come to him because of his position in the police force, exploiting his authority to intimidate the victim.
Previous Criminal Record and Police Service
This is not Jagtap's first encounter with the law. The Wanowrie police had previously arrested him in a case involving cheating and forgery several years ago. After obtaining bail in that instance, he was reinstated in the state police services, raising questions about oversight and accountability within the force.
The arrest underscores ongoing efforts to address misconduct within law enforcement and serves as a reminder that legal accountability applies to all, regardless of position.
