Thane Rural Police swiftly solved the murder of a 35-year-old tailor from Saki Naka after discovering discarded slippers, clothes, and rags near his decomposed body. The victim, Shamshad Ali, was allegedly killed by a Mumbra-based zari worker and his accomplice over a Rs 3 lakh loan dispute.
Discovery of the Body
Ali's body was found on Thursday in a secluded area near Vasind. Investigators noted multiple stab wounds, with the victim's eyes blindfolded and limbs bound with rags, indicating a premeditated killing. The absence of CCTV coverage and advanced decomposition initially hampered identification.
Breakthrough in Investigation
The case gained momentum when Ali's wife identified the clothes and slippers as belonging to her husband. The rags used to restrain him suggested a link to the textile trade, leading police to track Ali's movements before his disappearance. They zeroed in on Sayyed Badshah, 38, a zari worker from Mumbra, and his associate Sameer Kalyankar, 43, from Mumbai.
Motive and Modus Operandi
According to Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural, Dr Vinaykumar Rathod, the accused hatched the murder plot after Ali repeatedly demanded repayment of the loan. Badshah, who claimed to be a tantrik, allegedly lured Ali to Vasind under the pretext of a ritual to remove obstacles from his life. He persuaded Ali to be blindfolded and tied up, then stabbed him to death along with Kalyankar. The body was dumped in a nearby area.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Police have arrested both suspects and are continuing their investigation. The case highlights the use of forensic evidence, such as clothing and restraints, in solving crimes even without CCTV footage.
