A tragic road accident occurred near Kundrathur on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a teacher and injuries to five others, including a woman colleague and four students. The incident took place when their car veered off a flyover and plunged into a 30-foot deep ditch.

Details of the Accident

The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar, 44, a teacher at Pazhaverkadu Government Higher Secondary School and a resident of NGO Colony, Ponneri, Tiruvallur district. He was driving from Ponneri to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur along with his colleague Sasikala, 36, her daughter Dikshita, 16, and students Lohith, 8, Mahizhini, 8, and Mazhali, 5.

How the Accident Happened

According to police, the car was speeding along the Outer Ring Road near Vandalur when Prabhakar suddenly lost control on the flyover close to Kundrathur, causing the vehicle to plunge into a ditch. Motorists who witnessed the crash immediately rushed to rescue the victims and alerted the police.

Injuries and Medical Response

Prabhakar died on the spot due to severe head injuries. Sasikala and the four children sustained serious injuries and multiple fractures. They were pulled out of the car and initially taken to the government hospital in Tambaram. Due to the severity of their injuries, the four children were later shifted to the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore for advanced treatment.

Investigation Underway

The Chromepet Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
