A tragic incident occurred in Bengaluru late Sunday night when a 54-year-old school teacher died after accidentally falling from a Rapido bike-taxi in JP Nagar. The victim, identified as S Radha, was a teacher at Delhi Public School (South) and a resident of Arakere.
Details of the Incident
According to police, Radha had visited her friends and relatives in Nagarabhavi and was returning home around 8pm when the accident took place. She had booked the ride with a female captain. Upon reaching Nandini Junction on 24th Main, JP Nagar, Radha, who was sitting side-saddle—with both legs on the same side of the bike—lost her balance and fell. In the chaos, the female captain also fell off the bike.
Injuries and Aftermath
Both individuals were wearing half-helmets. Radha sustained deep injuries on her nose and forehead, leading to internal bleeding. She was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Safety Concerns Raised
This incident has raised questions about the safety measures of bike-taxi services, particularly regarding the practice of riding side-saddle and the use of half-helmets. Authorities are investigating the matter.
