Teen arrested for assaulting, robbing man met on gay dating app

A 19-year-old teenager was arrested by the Kattoor police in Coimbatore on Sunday on charges of assaulting and robbing a youth whom he had befriended on a gay dating app.

Arrest and Identification

The arrested individual has been identified as V Soundar, 19, a resident of Ramasamy Muthaliyar Street near Ganapathi in the city. According to police, the complainant, P Rohith, had befriended Soundar on a dating app.

Incident Details

Around 7pm on Saturday, Soundar called Rohith over the phone and asked him to meet near Avarampalayam railway bridge. When Rohith arrived at the designated location, Soundar and his friend were present. The duo assaulted Rohith and snatched his gold chain, weighing two sovereigns, and an ear stud. They also demanded money from him. As Rohith had no cash, he transferred Rs 725 to Soundar's mobile number.

Police Action

On Sunday, Rohith filed a complaint with the Kattoor police, who registered a case and began investigations. After detailed inquiries, police arrested Soundar and booked him under Section 304(2) of the BNS Act. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody. Police have launched a hunt for Soundar's accomplice, who remains at large.

The incident highlights the risks associated with meeting strangers from online platforms. Authorities urge users to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
