A 17-year-old boy from Varanasi district has died after displaying extraordinary bravery in confronting a group of thieves who had entered his relative's home. The tragic incident occurred late on Sunday night in Dudhari village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Saiyedraja police station in Chandauli district.
A Night of Bravery and Tragedy
According to police officials, the chain of events began when approximately six thieves entered the house of Munna Ramin in Dudhari village while the family was asleep. The teenager, identified as Monu Kumar, sensed the intruders' presence and woke up. He saw the thieves fleeing with a box and immediately raised an alarm and gave chase.
Monu pursued one of the thieves who was carrying the box and managed to catch him in a field outside the village. A fierce struggle ensued between the two. Despite the danger, Monu held onto the thief tightly and shouted for help from fellow villagers.
The Fatal Shot and Villagers' Response
Seeing their accomplice caught, the other thieves returned to the scene. One of them opened fire at Monu with a firearm, hitting the courageous teenager. The sound of the gunshot and Monu's screams alerted the villagers, who rushed towards the field.
Even after suffering the bullet wound, Monu did not let go of the thief he had apprehended. His determination allowed the arriving villagers to capture the thief, while his other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The villagers then rushed the injured Monu to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police Investigation and Recovery
Saiyedraja police station in-charge Dineshwar Pandey confirmed on Monday that Monu Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The thief captured by Monu and the villagers was taken into police custody.
Upon searching the arrested individual, police recovered a diary containing numerous contacts and two mobile phones. These items are expected to be crucial in identifying the other gang members involved in the burglary and shooting. Police teams have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the remaining thieves.
The body of the young hero was sent for a postmortem examination as part of the standard investigative procedure. The police have registered a case and are pursuing multiple leads based on the evidence recovered from the arrested suspect.
