A tragic incident unfolded at Namo Ghat in Varanasi early Sunday morning, where a 17-year-old boy lost his life after being brutally beaten by security guards. The victim, a resident of Sonbhadra district, was with four friends when they were attacked with sticks and steel rods by around a dozen guards from a private security company. The altercation began around 1 am when the boys arrived at the ghat, escalated around 3 am, and resulted in the death of the minor.

Incident Details

According to ACP (Kotwali) Vijay Pratap Singh, the boys had a dispute with a security guard at Gate-2 of Namo Ghat. The argument turned violent, and the guards, numbering about 12, surrounded the boys and attacked them. The victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The other boys managed to escape and alerted the police.

Police Action

Adampur police promptly arrived at the scene and arrested four security guards involved in the assault. The body has been sent for postmortem, and further investigation is underway. The arrested guards are employees of the private security company responsible for Namo Ghat's security.

Victim's Background

The deceased boy, along with his friends, hailed from Padri and Raigadh areas of Sonbhadra district. They had come to Varanasi for work, including purchasing medicines. After finishing their tasks late Saturday night, they decided to spend time at Namo Ghat before returning home. They reached the ghat around 1 am and initially had a minor argument with a guard, which they did not take seriously.

As they were leaving around 3 am and reached the ramp leading to Gate-2, the guards attacked them. The ramp became chaotic as the boys tried to flee, but they were chased and beaten mercilessly. The victim suffered severe injuries and fell unconscious. Despite being injured, his friends managed to escape and inform the police.

The prompt response from Adampur police led to the rescue of the critically injured boy, but he could not be saved. The incident has sparked outrage, and authorities are ensuring a thorough investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.
