In a heartbreaking incident, an 18-year-old labourer lost his life after falling from the Kumar Bhaskar Varma bridge in Guwahati on Sunday. The youth, identified as Rabil Ali from Barpeta district, was attempting to film a reel on the bridge's railings when he slipped and fell onto a sand bar below, where construction materials were stored.

According to Ratul Das, the officer-in-charge of North Guwahati police station, authorities received immediate alerts from locals who witnessed the fall. "We received information that the youth had climbed onto a section of the railings to make a reel on social media. In the process, he lost his balance and slipped, falling onto a sand bar below, where several construction materials were kept. People immediately raised an alarm and alerted us," Das stated. Rabil was accompanied by three other individuals at the time of the incident.
Detentions and Suspicions of Drug Abuse
Following the tragedy, police have detained Rabil's three companions—Saidul Ali, Rabiul Ali, and Faruk Ali—for questioning. Locals have raised suspicions of possible drug abuse among the group, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation. A police officer involved in the case mentioned, "We are investigating the matter and are trying to ascertain as to how he slipped and fell."
