Extensive Police Investigation

Following the incident, Delhi Police launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. Investigative teams employed multiple strategies:

  • Analyzed CCTV footage from numerous routes in and around the accident site to trace the vehicle's movement
  • Obtained details of suspected vehicles from the Transport Office database
  • Physically verified several vehicles matching the description at their registered addresses
  • Summoned and examined vehicle owners at the police station as part of the probe

After sustained investigative efforts spanning several days, authorities identified the offending vehicle as a silver Maruti Ciaz. The car was subsequently traced and recovered in a damaged condition before being officially seized as evidence.

Identification and Arrest of the Accused

Police identified the primary accused as Ruhaan Chadha, aged 19, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. During questioning, Chadha admitted to driving in a rash and negligent manner, which directly led to the fatal collision.

Investigators also arrested his mother, Niharika Chadha, who is the registered owner of the vehicle. She faces charges for allegedly withholding information and failing to present the accused despite being aware of the accident. Police discovered that attempts had been made to conceal the vehicle and arrange for repairs to avoid detection.

Legal Charges and Official Statements

DCP (South) Anant Mittal confirmed that both accused individuals were thoroughly examined during the investigation. The vehicle owner has been specifically booked under Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for concealing evidence and attempting to get the vehicle repaired to obstruct justice.

This case highlights the serious consequences of rash driving and the legal responsibilities of vehicle owners in such incidents. The Delhi Police's methodical approach demonstrates their commitment to solving hit-and-run cases and bringing those responsible to justice, regardless of attempts to conceal evidence or evade authorities.
