Tragedy Strikes on Paldi-Dholka Road

A young farm worker's life was tragically cut short on Tuesday afternoon when a speeding dumper collided with his two-wheeler on the busy Paldi-Dholka Road in Ahmedabad. The victim, 18-year-old Sumit Chunara from Juna Navapura village in Daskroi taluka, succumbed to his injuries at Asarwa Civil Hospital late Tuesday night.

The Fatal Incident

According to the FIR filed by his father Bharat Chunara, Sumit was performing an errand for fellow farm workers when the tragedy occurred. Around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, the teenager had taken a two-wheeler to purchase tea from a junction near Mahijada Patia. As he traveled along the road, a dumper coming from the Paldi-Kankaj direction allegedly rammed into his vehicle from the front.

The impact of the collision was severe enough to throw Sumit onto the road, causing critical injuries to his legs and entire body. Eyewitnesses and passersby immediately alerted emergency services, and a 108 ambulance was dispatched to the accident site.

Hospital Battle and Family Tragedy

The critically injured youth was quickly transported to Asarwa Civil Hospital, accompanied by his father Bharat and uncle Jitendra. Medical staff admitted Sumit to the emergency ward, where he remained unconscious throughout treatment. Despite doctors' efforts to save him, the young farm worker succumbed to his injuries late at night.

Bharat Chunara, in his police statement, revealed that Sumit was the youngest of his three sons and played a crucial role in supporting the family's livelihood through vegetable farming. The tragic incident has left the farming family devastated and facing an uncertain future without their youngest breadwinner.

Police Investigation Underway

Aslali police have confirmed that the dumper driver fled the spot immediately after the accident, leaving the injured teenager on the road. Police teams have launched a search operation to locate the vehicle and identify the driver responsible for the fatal crash.

Authorities have registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligent driving, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The investigation continues as police examine evidence from the accident site and pursue leads to apprehend the absconding driver.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing road safety concerns on Ahmedabad's busy thoroughfares, particularly involving heavy vehicles and vulnerable road users. The Paldi-Dholka Road has witnessed several accidents in recent years, raising questions about traffic management and enforcement in the area.
