Tragic Accident in Ahmedabad BRTS Corridor Claims Teenager's Life
A devastating road accident inside the BRTS corridor in Ahmedabad resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy on Friday morning. The incident has ignited fresh concerns regarding access control and safety measures on the city's dedicated bus lanes.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The tragic event unfolded around 9:45 AM near the CTM Expressway stretch and Jashodanagar crossroads. The victim, identified as Arun Vanzara, a resident of Amraiwadi who had recently completed his Class 10 board examinations, was riding a scooter when he entered the BRTS corridor from the expressway side.
Simultaneously, an AMTS bus traveling from the opposite direction collided head-on with the scooter. The impact was severe, dragging the teenager for several feet and causing critical injuries to his head, face, and leg. Eyewitnesses reported that he was bleeding heavily on the track immediately after the collision.
Immediate Aftermath and Family's Anguish
Arun Vanzara was swiftly transported to LG Hospital via a 108 ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. His father, Padam Vanzara, who operates a garment shop in Vatva, filed a police complaint stating that his son had left home on the scooter to open the shop despite being advised to stay back.
The family received a distressing call from an unidentified person shortly after his departure, informing them of the accident. Padam Vanzara has alleged that the bus driver was speeding and driving negligently, thereby endangering lives.
Investigation and Official Response
Authorities have registered a case against the bus driver, and the vehicle has been taken into custody for further investigation. The I-Division traffic police are leading the probe into the incident.
Officials revealed that the RFID gate at the stretch was closed at the time of the accident, raising critical questions about how the two-wheeler managed to access the restricted BRTS lane. This breach highlights potential lapses in the enforcement of access control mechanisms designed to prevent such incidents.
Broader Implications for Traffic Safety
The accident underscores ongoing safety challenges within Ahmedabad's BRTS corridors. The front portion of the bus sustained extensive damage, while the scooter was badly mangled, illustrating the violent nature of the collision.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the need for stringent monitoring and improved safety protocols on dedicated bus lanes to prevent future fatalities and ensure public safety.
