Ghaziabad Teen Fatally Stabbed in Cafe After Prolonged Video Game Dispute
A tragic incident unfolded in Loni, Ghaziabad, on Wednesday morning, resulting in the murder of a 16-year-old boy, Faizan, following a bitter argument rooted in taunts over video games at a local cafe. The altercation, which had been simmering for over a month, culminated in a fatal stabbing that has shocked the community and led to the arrest of two minors.
Escalation of a Deadly Feud
According to police reports, Faizan, a resident of Arya Nagar, was a regular at the cafe for two years, often engaging in sessions of Tekken 3, a popular combat video game. The conflict began approximately one and a half months ago when Faizan lost a game to the 14-year-old accused. This loss sparked a pattern of mutual taunting during subsequent gaming sessions, which gradually intensified over time.
The dispute took a more serious turn a month ago when the 14-year-old accused confronted Faizan at a roadside momo stall where the victim worked, leading to a heated argument. On Tuesday, just one day before the murder, taunting at the cafe escalated into a physical fight, though it was broken up by other patrons. However, the tension reached a breaking point on Wednesday morning around 11 am, when Faizan was at the cafe and the accused arrived, resuming the taunts and triggering another altercation.
Details of the Attack and Arrests
DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari provided chilling details of the incident. During the fight, a 16-year-old boy accompanying the accused walked to the latter’s home, which is adjacent to the cafe, retrieved a knife, and handed it to the 14-year-old. The younger minor then stabbed Faizan twice in the abdomen. Faizan was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to GTB Hospital in East Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries by evening.
Police acted swiftly, arresting both minors on Thursday. An FIR has been registered under BNS section 103 for murder. As the accused are minors, they will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings. During questioning, the 14-year-old claimed that Faizan had provoked the original conflict, according to ACP Gyan Prakash Rai of Ankur Vihar.
Family Tragedy and Background
Faizan’s family has been devastated by the loss. His father, Naeem, a daily-wage labourer, had left for work before the attack and only learned of his son’s death eight hours later upon returning home, as he did not have a phone. It was Faizan’s elder brother, Mobeen, who filed the police complaint. Mobeen stated, “Both had a dispute for the last one to two months after my brother lost to him in the game a few times.”
In a disturbing twist, police revealed that the accused’s father and uncle were arrested in 2024 for allegedly shooting a labourer to death. The uncle was recently released on bail, while the father remains in custody, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Community Impact and Legal Proceedings
This incident highlights the severe consequences of unresolved conflicts among youth, particularly in the context of gaming culture. Authorities are emphasizing the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms and parental supervision to prevent such tragedies. The case continues to be investigated, with police focusing on the minors’ backgrounds and the escalation of the feud.
The murder has sparked discussions about teen violence and the influence of video games, though officials stress that the root cause appears to be personal taunts rather than the games themselves. As the legal process unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a young life and calls for justice.
