A 17-year-old girl in Ahmedabad has sought help from the Abhayam 181 helpline after enduring months of blackmail and repeated sexual assault by two youths who allegedly raped her about a year ago. According to a counsellor at the helpline, the girl turned 17 a few months ago. She had befriended a youth living near her society approximately one year ago. The youth later took her to a hotel along with his friend, where both allegedly raped her after intoxicating her. They also recorded a video of the incident.
Blackmail and Repeated Assault
Using the video as leverage, the duo allegedly blackmailed the girl, threatening to harm her family if she did not comply with their demands. This led to repeated instances of rape over the following months. Unable to bear the continuous cycle of abuse, the girl eventually confided in her family, who then approached the Abhayam 181 helpline for assistance.
Legal Action Taken
Based on the victim's statement, a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against the two accused. The police have initiated a search operation to apprehend them. The counsellor confirmed that the authorities are taking the matter seriously and are working to ensure justice for the survivor.
