Telangana HC Seeks Reply on Illegal Roadside Statues

The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to file its response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that alleges illegal statue installations and unauthorised structures along the Miryalaguda–Huzurnagar main road in Suryapet district.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin issued the order while hearing a PIL filed by 97-year-old freedom fighter Bandla Pullareddy. The petitioner claimed that these statues and structures are not being removed as part of the road-widening works.

The bench instructed the government counsel to gather relevant information from officials and present it before the court on the next hearing date. The matter has been adjourned.

Petitioner's Allegations

The petitioner argued that instead of widening the road evenly on both sides from the central median, officials are increasing the width by 10 feet on one side, citing the need to protect certain structures. This approach is allegedly causing losses to other landholders.

The counsel further stated that despite representations, authorities have not removed the alleged unauthorised statues and structures on government land beside the road. “The approved alignment had been altered and the project was being executed unilaterally,” the counsel submitted.

The petitioner requested the court to instruct authorities to carry out uniform widening by adding five feet on each side from the existing central median.
