Tractor Driver Allegedly Poisons Daughter, Attempts Suicide in Telangana Village
In a tragic incident stemming from marital discord, a tractor driver has been accused of poisoning his two-year-old daughter and then attempting to take his own life in Lachammagudem village, located in the Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana. The man, however, survived the suicide attempt, while the young girl succumbed to the poisoning after being rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad.
Details of the Family and Marital Strain
Varikuppala Ravi, aged 30, married Swathi, 27, a native of Madugula village in the same district, approximately four years ago. The couple had two children: two-year-old Meghana and nine-month-old Mayuri. According to police reports from Narayanpur, the marital relationship had been under significant strain over the past six months. Ravi frequently quarreled with Swathi over various domestic issues, leading to escalating tensions within the household.
Unable to endure the constant conflicts, Swathi left their home three months ago and moved to her parents' house in Madugula, taking her younger daughter, Mayuri, with her. Ravi retained custody of their elder daughter, Meghana, during this separation.
Events Leading to the Tragic Incident
On March 21, Swathi approached the Madugula police station, seeking assistance to meet her elder daughter, Meghana. The police contacted Ravi and requested that he bring the child to Madugula. Ravi agreed to comply with this request on March 23.
After the conversation with the police, Ravi took Meghana to the outskirts of the village. En route, he purchased rat poison. Sub-Inspector J Jagan of Narayanpur police stated, "He mixed poison in water and made the girl consume it, before consuming the same substance himself." Following this act, Ravi returned home with his daughter and attempted to sleep.
Medical Emergency and Aftermath
Soon after, Meghana began vomiting, and Ravi also started experiencing severe discomfort. Family members quickly rushed both to the government hospital in Gollaguda. Due to the critical condition of the child, Meghana was referred to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Tragically, she succumbed to the poisoning while undergoing treatment at 11:05 a.m. on March 23.
Ravi is currently undergoing medical care at a private hospital in Nalgonda. His condition is reported to be stable, but he faces serious legal consequences for his actions.
Legal Action and Charges Filed
Based on a complaint filed by Swathi, the police have registered a case against Ravi under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sub-Inspector Jagan confirmed, "Once discharged from the hospital, he would be arrested and produced before the court for judicial remand." The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining all aspects of the case to ensure justice is served.
This heartbreaking event highlights the severe consequences of unresolved marital conflicts and domestic disputes, underscoring the need for community support and intervention in such situations to prevent further tragedies.
