Telangana Police Bust Interstate Drug Racket, Seize Mephedrone and MDMA

In a major crackdown, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) of Telangana police, in collaboration with local forces, has successfully dismantled an interstate drug manufacturing and trafficking network. The operation, centered in Chegunta, Medak district, led to the arrest of key suspects and the seizure of substantial quantities of synthetic drugs, including mephedrone and MDMA.

Dhaba Served as Front for Drug Operations

The racket cleverly used a roadside dhaba named 'Jodhpur Dhaba' in Chegunta as a cover for its illicit activities. According to police investigations, the dhaba was established two years ago by Manish Bishnoi and Sumeeth, providing a base for the accused to operate their drug network. Veerender Swamy and other accomplices, including Sishupal and Raju, reportedly stayed at this location while coordinating their criminal enterprise.

Arrests Made Across Multiple States

On Friday, EAGLE sleuths, with support from Rajasthan police, apprehended Veerender Swamy and Manish Bishnoi in Rajasthan as they were transporting drugs manufactured in Telangana. Simultaneously, based on intelligence from EAGLE, police in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, arrested Manoj Kumar Mathur, who was involved in manufacturing mephedrone and supplying it to drug peddlers. Manoj also shared his knowledge of synthetic drug production with other members of the racket.

Illegal Procurement of Precursors via E-commerce

The gang exploited e-commerce platforms to legally purchase chemical precursors required for drug manufacturing. They used fake company details and provided fraudulent billing addresses in Karnataka and Delhi to acquire these materials. The precursors were collected in Chitradurg, Karnataka, and transported to Shadnagar, where the actual manufacturing of mephedrone took place.

Significant Drug Seizures and Ongoing Investigations

Following the arrests, police seized 10 kg of MDMA from Manoj in Agra and 17 kg of mephedrone from Veerender and Manish in Rajasthan. Additionally, intelligence suggests that a missing vehicle contained 13 kg of mephedrone. The drugs were transported using two different vehicles, one of which was intercepted and seized in Rajasthan with the assistance of local police.

EAGLE officials have registered a separate case for the drug manufacturing unit in Shadnagar. They plan to conduct a panchanama (official inventory) of the Shadnagar site after taking custody of the accused from Rajasthan police. In Agra, a large quantity of manufacturing materials was also seized based on information provided by Manoj.

Broader Implications and Police Efforts

This bust highlights the sophisticated methods employed by drug networks, including the use of legitimate businesses as fronts and the illegal sourcing of precursors through online channels. The Telangana police's proactive approach, involving interstate coordination, underscores their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of this racket and bring all involved to justice.
