Temple Worker Succumbs to Injuries After Firecracker Explosion in Alappuzha
A tragic incident at a temple in Alappuzha has resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man, highlighting severe safety lapses. Ravindran, a resident of Alappuzha, was severely injured in a firecracker explosion while performing cleaning duties at the Kalappura Ghantakarna Temple and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The explosion occurred on April 3, when Ravindran and another individual were assigned to clean the temple's storeroom. After collecting waste and debris, Ravindran placed it in a pit within the temple premises. Unbeknownst to him, the pit contained firecrackers, leading to an immediate and violent explosion that caused severe facial injuries.
Medical Treatment and Fatal Outcome
Following the explosion, Ravindran was initially rushed to the medical college hospital in Vandanam for emergency care. Due to the severity of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on Wednesday night while undergoing intensive care.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Based on a complaint filed by Ravindran's relatives, the Alappuzha North police have registered a formal case against the officials of the Kalappura Ghantakarna Temple. The First Information Report (FIR) indicates that the firecrackers were carelessly placed in the pit without implementing proper safety measures, pointing to gross negligence on the part of the temple authorities.
