Terror Suspect Murdered Inside Faridabad District Jail in Early Morning Attack

In a shocking incident at Faridabad district jail, a 20-year-old terror accused, Abdul Rahman, was killed in the early hours of Monday after being attacked by a fellow inmate. The assailant, identified as Arun Chaudhary, allegedly used a sharp-edged object to strike Rahman repeatedly on the head while he was asleep around 2 am.

Police Confirm Details of the Jail Murder

ACP Ashok Kumar stated that police received a formal letter from jail authorities detailing the alleged murder. "Arun Chaudhary attacked Rahman while he was sleeping. We have registered a murder case against him," Kumar explained. Jail staff provided immediate first aid, but Rahman succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital. His body has been sent to BK Civil Hospital's mortuary for an autopsy, pending the arrival of his family from Uttar Pradesh.

Investigation and Security Review Underway

Kumar added that Chaudhary will be taken into police custody via a production warrant, as local officers are not authorized to interrogate inmates on jail premises. "Once we take him into custody, we will ascertain the exact reason behind their tussle and murder," he noted. A judicial probe has been initiated in accordance with standard protocol. Meanwhile, prison security arrangements are being thoroughly reviewed, with inmates and staff questioned to reconstruct the events leading to the fatal assault.

Background of the Accused and Assailant

Abdul Rahman, a resident of Milkipur in UP's Faizabad district, was arrested on March 2, 2025, near Pali village in Faridabad during a joint operation by Gujarat ATS and Haryana STF. Security agencies had flagged him as a key operative involved in reconnaissance of sensitive locations, including the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and state administrative buildings. Digital devices seized from him contained videos and material related to the temple, along with instructions for a planned attack. Two hand grenades recovered from Rahman, allegedly sourced through Pakistan's ISI-linked networks associated with Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), were later defused by bomb disposal squads.

Rahman had been living in Faridabad under a fake identity, working as an autorickshaw driver and at a small eatery to blend into the local community, while staying at a secluded pump house on the city's outskirts.

Arun Chaudhary, the alleged attacker, was transferred from a Jammu jail to Faridabad in October 2024. He faces eight criminal cases, including charges of trespassing, attempted murder, and murder. The motive behind his assault on Rahman remains under investigation, with authorities examining potential conflicts or external influences.

Broader Implications and Ongoing Probes

This incident has raised serious concerns about jail security and inmate safety. The murder occurs amid a coordinated probe by central and state agencies into sleeper cells and logistical support networks linked to terror plots. While no specific date was fixed for the planned attack on the Ram Temple, agencies assessed it aimed to cause mass casualties and panic. The killing of Rahman inside prison adds a complex layer to these investigations, prompting calls for enhanced vigilance and procedural reforms in correctional facilities.
