Thane Man Charged with Rape of Minor Girl Under New Legal Provisions
In a distressing incident from Maharashtra's Thane district, a 58-year-old man has been formally charged for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl. According to police reports released on Tuesday, the accused is accused of committing the offense over a period from December 2025 to February 2026. The case has drawn significant attention due to its severity and the application of recent legal frameworks.
Details of the Alleged Crime and Police Action
The official from Bhoiwada police station stated that the accused reportedly lured the child to his residence in the Nizampura area of Bhiwandi under false pretenses. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The charges have been filed under Sections 64 (rape) and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alongside relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Police noted that no specific reason has been provided for the delay in lodging the complaint, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges in addressing child sexual abuse in India, particularly in urban areas like Thane. The use of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a newer legal code, underscores efforts to strengthen judicial responses to such crimes. Authorities are continuing their probe to gather more evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
