Man Survives Suicide Attempt After Jumping from Kasheli Bridge in Thane
A 26-year-old man sustained serious injuries on Tuesday afternoon after jumping into a creek from the Kasheli bridge on the Kasheli–Thane Road. Officials, based on a preliminary investigation, stated that the man was attempting to end his life by jumping into the water but accidentally landed on one of the concrete beams beneath the bridge.
Incident Details and Rescue Operation
The incident was reported to the Disaster Management Control Room at around 12 pm. The injured individual was identified as Aditya Mishra, a resident of Kalher in Bhiwandi. According to police reports, Mishra was travelling from Kalher towards Thane when he suddenly stopped his two-wheeler on the bridge. He parked it by the roadside and jumped into the creek, but his fall was intercepted by a concrete beam, leading to severe injuries.
Passers-by immediately alerted multiple rescue teams, including:
- Kapurbawdi and Narapoli police stations
- The Fire Brigade
- The Disaster Management Control Room
- The Thane Disaster Response Force
- The Thane Municipal Corporation Health Department
Local fishermen also played a crucial role in the rescue operation by assisting with a boat. After nearly one hour of coordinated efforts, the man was successfully rescued from the creek.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
Following the rescue, Aditya Mishra was handed over to the Kapurbawdi police and subsequently shifted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
