Thane Resident Defrauded of Rs 22 Lakh in Sophisticated Job Racket
A 56-year-old man from the Balkum area in Thane has fallen victim to a highly sophisticated job scam, losing a staggering Rs 22 lakh. The elaborate fraud, which spanned nine months from August 2024 to May 2025, involved promises of high-ranking positions within the Indian Railways, leveraging forged government documents and official insignias to deceive the victim.
Deception Through Forged Documents and Official Insignias
According to police reports, the perpetrators lured the victim with the prospect of securing employment as an Inspector of Post and a Rail Supervisor. To bolster their credibility, they sent multiple counterfeit appointment letters via digital platforms. These forged documents were meticulously crafted, featuring the official Indian Railways logo and the State Emblem (Rajmudra), creating an illusion of authenticity that successfully won the victim's trust.
Financial Exploitation Under False Pretenses
Under the guise of processing fees and various administrative requirements for the promised jobs, the victim was pressured into transferring a total of Rs 22 lakh. The funds were moved through online banking and money transfer services over the nine-month period, with the fraudsters continuously demanding payments for fictitious procedures.
Discovery and Legal Action
The victim eventually realized the scam when the promised jobs failed to materialize, and the individuals involved refused to return the funds. Following a preliminary inquiry, the Kapurbawdi police registered a formal case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include:
- Cheating
- Forgery
- Criminal conspiracy
While the investigation is actively ongoing to trace the suspects and recover the swindled amount, no arrests have been made as of yet. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of job offers, especially those involving significant financial transactions.
