A 27-year-old worker painting a railway bridge over the creek between Mumbra and Diva in Thane died by drowning on Thursday after allegedly losing his footing and falling into the water, officials said.
Incident Details
According to Yasin Tadvi, in charge of the Thane regional disaster management cell, the incident occurred around 4 pm. The victim, identified as Jalaluddin Waqar Ali, was assigned painting work on the bridge on the fast line between Diva and Mumbra.
“Ali probably lost his foothold and fell into the creek waters. His colleagues alerted the Mumbra police and fire brigade personnel, who reached the spot and launched a search operation. Rescue teams recovered the worker’s lifeless body from the creek and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” Tadvi said.
Legal Action
An accidental death case is being registered with the Mumbra police, officials said.
