Coimbatore Police Make Third Arrest in High-Profile Murder Investigation
In a significant development in the murder case of R Kasturi, the daughter of the founder of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), the Coimbatore city police have apprehended a third suspect. The arrest was made on Wednesday, marking a crucial step forward in the ongoing investigation into this high-profile crime that has captured public attention.
Details of the Latest Arrest and Seizures
The arrested individual has been identified as Dammer Bahadur Budhu, a 26-year-old man from Nepal. Police officials tracked him to Bengaluru, where he was taken into custody and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. During the arrest, authorities seized 30,000 in cash along with several valuable items, including a vintage watch, from his possession.
This arrest follows previous police actions where two other suspects were taken into custody. In those earlier operations, law enforcement recovered seven sovereigns of gold, approximately 80,000 in cash, and multiple watches from the arrested individuals.
Ongoing Manhunt for Alleged Mastermind and Accomplice
Despite these arrests, the investigation remains active as police continue their search for the alleged mastermind, identified only as Raju, and his paramour, Surja Rokey, aged 37. A special police team has been deployed to Bengaluru, where they are actively pursuing leads to locate these key suspects.
City Police Commissioner N Kannan provided additional details about the crime, revealing that investigation findings indicate Raju and three accomplices rented a private taxi to Nanjundapuram on the day of the murder. Raju reportedly told the driver they were going to vacate a house, staying in the vehicle while the other three entered the premises with assistance from Surja Rokey, who worked as a domestic helper at the victim's residence.
Sequence of Events and Police Advisory
After looting the house, all five individuals including Surja fled to Bengaluru in the same taxi. According to police reports, Raju distributed some money to his aides before they separated and went in different directions to evade capture.
In light of this case, police have issued an important advisory to the public regarding domestic staff hiring practices. Authorities strongly recommend that individuals employing housemaids and drivers should collect their identity cards and verify whether they have any criminal records before finalizing employment arrangements. This precautionary measure aims to prevent similar incidents and enhance household security.
