Thiruvananthapuram: City police have detained approximately 150 habitual offenders in preventive custody as part of a special initiative to bolster law and order and curb criminal activities in the city.
Operation Dark Hunt Launched
The action was carried out under Operation Dark Hunt, a special drive initiated on the instructions of City Police Commissioner K Karthick. The operation targets repeat offenders whose names appear in rowdy history sheets across various police stations.
Police officials stated that the detainees are being interrogated to verify their criminal histories, current activities, and potential involvement in other offenses. The effort aims to identify repeat offenders and prevent crimes before they occur, thereby enhancing public safety and maintaining law and order.
Notable Detainees
Among those taken into preventive detention are several known history-sheeters, including Airport Danny, Pokkam Shajahan, Singam Dhanesh, Pallan Suresh, Manoj Shekhar, Pallan Sajeev, Pallan Suni, and Inas. Police confirmed that the detainees include individuals who had completed their detention period under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (Kaapa) as well as those whose entry-ban period had expired.
The accused have been transferred to the Thiruvananthapuram correctional home. Screening and verification procedures are currently underway at respective police stations. Officials are examining the activities of the detainees and gathering information regarding any fresh criminal involvement.
Future Measures
Commissioner Karthick stated that similar preventive measures would continue in the coming days. He also announced that enforcement activities would be intensified under ‘Operation Toofan’, a separate initiative aimed at curbing the spread of narcotic drugs and preventing drug-related offenses within the city police limits.
