A serious security alert was triggered in Lucknow after a threat message targeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was received on the WhatsApp helpline of the UP-112 headquarters. The message threatened to kill the chief minister within 24 hours and detonate a bomb at the Ram temple, according to police officials.
Discovery and Immediate Response
The threat was detected on Monday evening by a dialogue officer assigned to the UP-112 social media desk. Upon noticing the message, the officer immediately informed senior officials. Subsequently, an FIR was registered at Sushant Golf City Police Station based on a complaint lodged by Inspector Sahendra Kumar Yadav of the UP-112 headquarters against the mobile number used to send the threatening message.
Escalation and Investigation
Police stated that the matter was promptly escalated to the Additional Director General (Law and Order), security headquarters, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), and other intelligence agencies. Cyber crime experts and Special Task Force (STF) teams have also been mobilized to trace the sender. Investigators are currently analyzing the mobile number, IP address, and digital trail associated with the WhatsApp account.
ACP Gosaiganj Rishabh Yadav confirmed that a case has been registered under charges including criminal intimidation and obstruction of government work, among others. ADCP South Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar noted that multiple teams are working to identify and arrest the person behind the threat. Meanwhile, security arrangements related to the chief minister and Ayodhya have been tightened as a precautionary measure.
