In a swift response to a complaint filed on Sunday, police in Tuticorin arrested three men on charges of gangraping a woman near the fishing harbour area. The Tuticorin all-woman police received the survivor's complaint, prompting the formation of four investigation teams under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil. Within hours, the teams traced and apprehended the accused, identified as Mohith (25), Ritish (19), and Jeyakumar Tiloth Berlin (21), according to a police officer.
Details of the Incident
Police revealed that one of the arrested men was known to the survivor. He, along with two accomplices, forcibly took the woman to a location near the fishing harbour and sexually assaulted her. In her complaint, the survivor further stated that the accused robbed her of Rs 2,500 in cash, a mobile phone, and two silver rings before fleeing the scene.
Legal Action
Police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including kidnapping, gangrape, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and robbery. The survivor was referred for a medical examination, and further investigation is underway.
