Colva police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Shashi Lakra at Mobor, Cavelossim. The accused have been identified as Sanjay Manjhi, Asish Kumar, and Jagnandan Sidar. All four men, including the victim, hailed from Chhattisgarh and were employed on a trawler stationed at Betul jetty.
Incident Details
According to investigators, on Saturday afternoon, the four men took the trawler across the river to Mobor-Cavelossim for repair work. They allegedly carried alcohol with them and began consuming it while on board. During the drinking session, an argument broke out between Lakra and the three others. The dispute escalated after Lakra allegedly kicked Sidar’s plate, enraging the others. The accused then allegedly broke a glass bottle and attacked Lakra, stabbing him in the throat and killing him on the spot.
Discovery of the Body
Police stated that the three men hid the corpse in the bushes. It was discovered on Sunday by locals, who alerted the authorities. Initially, a case of unnatural death was registered. However, following the postmortem examination, a murder case was filed.
Arrest and Investigation
The accused were apprehended late Sunday night. Police are continuing their interrogation to determine the role played by each in the crime. The men have been remanded in 10 days of police custody.
