Three Arrested for Duping Transport Employee of Rs 23 Lakh in Delhi

In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have apprehended three individuals in connection with a high-stakes armed robbery that targeted a transport company employee, resulting in a loss of Rs 23 lakh. The incident, which occurred near the Shastri Nagar Metro station in north Delhi, was executed with precision, leveraging insider information to track the victim's movements.

Details of the Robbery Incident

According to police reports, the robbery took place on February 23, when Kuldeep Sharma, a 28-year-old employee, was returning to his office in Kishanganj after collecting cash from Keshav Puram. At approximately 7:40 PM, while Sharma was on his motorcycle, two assailants on another motorcycle intercepted him near the metro station. The perpetrators pointed a firearm at him and swiftly made off with the bag containing the substantial sum of money.

CCTV footage from the area revealed a chilling detail: the two robbers had been tailing Sharma throughout his journey. A third accomplice, later identified as Kalaram from Rajasthan, separated midway during the pursuit. Kalaram remains at large, and authorities are intensifying efforts to locate him.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The investigation led to the arrest of Monu, a 31-year-old resident of Bhalswa Dairy, on March 9. During his apprehension, police recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, and Rs 3.95 lakh in cash from his possession. An official statement highlighted that Monu, along with the absconding accused, meticulously planned the robbery after receiving confidential information about the cash movement. He was also responsible for arranging the weapon and the motorcycle used in the crime.

Based on Monu's confession, law enforcement officials subsequently nabbed Sandeep, aged 39, in Mangolpuri on March 19. Sandeep was one of the two riders who directly confronted Sharma during the robbery. A search of his belongings yielded Rs 5 lakh in cash from the looted amount.

Further investigations led to the apprehension of a third suspect, Sagar, aged 30, which resulted in the recovery of an additional Rs 7 lakh. In total, the police have successfully recovered Rs 15.95 lakh of the stolen money. Authorities have confirmed that all the arrested individuals have prior involvement in multiple criminal cases, underscoring their history of illicit activities.

Ongoing Efforts and Recovery

Police officials have emphasized that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused, including Kalaram, and to recover the outstanding amount of approximately Rs 7.05 lakh. The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime and the critical role of surveillance and insider tips in such investigations.
