Dehradun Police Arrest Three Men for Murder Over Rs 2.5 Lakh Loan Dispute

In a shocking incident, Dehradun police on Sunday arrested three men for allegedly murdering their 24-year-old friend over a Rs 2.5 lakh loan dispute and dumping his body in Haridwar. Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobal confirmed the arrests, highlighting the brutal nature of the crime that has sent shockwaves through the community.

Details of the Crime and Arrests

The accused, identified as Hemant Kumar Semwal (37), Adil Hussain (38), and Vaibhav Bhatt (25), all residents of Nehru Colony in Dehradun, are alleged to have murdered Digamber Dhiman on February 9 during a violent altercation at Semwal's flat. The crime remained hidden until February 17, when police recovered Dhiman's body from the Chidiapur forest area in Haridwar, following a tip-off and thorough investigation.

Prior to this, police had arrested an alleged accomplice, Ramnandan, on February 17. During interrogation, Ramnandan confessed to transporting the body in his taxi from Dehradun to Haridwar for Rs 15,000 and assisting in its disposal. His statement proved crucial in tracing and recovering the body. Acting on inputs from informers and detailed analysis of CCTV footage, authorities swiftly apprehended the three main accused on Sunday, as stated by SSP Dobal.

Background and Motive Behind the Murder

According to police reports, Dhiman had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from the trio and was repeatedly delaying repayment, which allegedly fueled tensions. On February 9, the accused learned that Dhiman had attended a local court for a hearing in a separate Pocso case against him. After the hearing did not take place, they invited him to Semwal's flat under false pretenses.

While consuming drugs at the flat, the accused confronted Dhiman about the overdue loan. When Dhiman made excuses once again, the situation escalated violently. The attackers allegedly used screwdrivers, a hammer, and iron rods to assault him, resulting in his death on the spot. In a bid to conceal the crime, the body was later transported to Haridwar and dumped in the forest area.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The accused were produced before a local court and subsequently sent to jail, as confirmed by SSP Dobal. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining all aspects of the case to ensure justice is served.

This incident underscores the severe consequences of financial disputes turning violent and highlights the diligent efforts of Dehradun police in solving the case through coordinated investigative work. The community remains alert as law enforcement continues to probe deeper into the matter.
