Major Drug Bust in Coimbatore
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Chettipalayam police in Coimbatore district have apprehended three individuals for illegal possession of methamphetamine, a powerful synthetic stimulant drug. The operation led to the seizure of 9.7 grams of the prohibited substance and exposed a local drug distribution network targeting young people in the region.
The Police Operation and Arrest
The breakthrough came on Thursday when law enforcement authorities received credible intelligence about an ongoing drug transaction at Orattukuppai, located near Chettipalayam. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team rushed to the scene and conducted thorough searches in the area.
During their surveillance, officers intercepted three suspicious individuals whose behavior raised immediate concerns. A subsequent personal search revealed they were carrying methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, weighing precisely 9.7 grams.
Identities and Confessions
The arrested men have been identified as S Kadarbasha (29), S Shafi Khan (39), and Balakrishnan (34), all residents of Podanur. Following their apprehension, the suspects were taken to the police station for detailed questioning.
During interrogation, the trio made startling revelations to the police. They confessed to being actively involved in selling narcotic substances to youth residing in and around the surrounding areas of Coimbatore. Their admission confirmed police suspicions about organized drug peddling operations in the locality.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The police have formally seized the confiscated drugs and registered a comprehensive case against all three accused under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The specific sections invoked include 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29(1) of the stringent anti-narcotics legislation.
Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are currently underway to uncover potential connections to larger drug networks and identify additional individuals involved in the illegal trade. The police are particularly focused on determining the source of the methamphetamine and mapping the complete distribution chain.
This successful operation underscores the continued vigilance of Coimbatore police against drug-related crimes and their commitment to protecting the youth from substance abuse. The arrest sends a strong message to drug peddlers operating in the region about the serious consequences they face under the NDPS Act.
