Three held after viral video shows woman assaulted in Jaipur

Jaipur: Jaipur Rural police on Friday detained three persons after a video allegedly showing the assault of a woman and her children during a land dispute in the Govindgarh area went viral on social media. The woman reportedly suffered grievous injuries, including the loss of fingers on one hand.

Police Action Following Viral Video

Following circulation of the video, Police Headquarters directed Jaipur Rural SP Hanuman Prasad Meena to ensure prompt action. Police subsequently detained all the accused and launched an investigation into the involvement of others named in the complaint.

Incident Details

Police said the incident occurred around 5 pm on June 9 when a 35-year-old woman was working in a field behind her house. According to the complaint, Mangal Chand Kumawat, a tractor driver from Khodyawali Dhani, allegedly began ploughing a field belonging to the woman’s brother-in-law. An argument broke out when she objected to the alleged cutting of the field boundary.

Police said Mangal Chand allegedly abused the woman, following which several of his relatives arrived at the spot. Investigators alleged that Prem Prakash, Mukesh, Rahul and Deepak threw her to the ground and assaulted her. The complainant further alleged that the group initially left but returned with additional people. Virendra, Deepak, Rahul, Virendra’s wife Rukma, Santosh Devi and Santosh’s father Kanaram allegedly arrived armed with sticks and attacked the woman and her two minor sons, one studying in Class XI and the other in Class III.

Severe Injuries

According to the complaint, Virendra allegedly struck the woman’s left hand with a sharp agricultural implement and an iron pipe, causing severe injuries. Her husband, Ramlal, who intervened, was also allegedly assaulted.

Investigation Underway

Police said medical examinations of the woman, her husband and one of her sons were conducted. Investigators inspected the scene, recorded statements and collected evidence. Further investigation is underway.
