The Tangi police on Friday took into custody three individuals linked to the brutal murder of Mohammed Shoaib, aged 21, and his friend Prasanta Kumar Jena, aged 24. The tragic incident occurred near the Nirgundi railway station in Cuttack district on December 31.

The Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt

The authorities have identified the arrested accused as Dilip Kumar Nayak (39), Gyanaranjan Mohanty (57), and Baula Singh (25). A senior police officer confirmed that the investigation is still active, with three more suspects identified and currently being sought. According to the police investigation, the sequence of events began in the early hours of Wednesday. Dilip Kumar Nayak operates a garage where both Gyanaranjan Mohanty and Baula Singh are employed. The trio reportedly spotted Shoaib and Jena on the premises of the garage. Mistaking them for intruders or thieves, the accused confronted the two victims.

The situation rapidly spiraled out of control. The confrontation escalated into a violent attack, with the accused allegedly using crowbars to assault Shoaib and Jena. The police stated that both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot. Following the act, the accused fled the scene, leading to a police search.
