Three held for decapitation murder in West Singhbhum forest

Police in West Singhbhum have made a swift breakthrough in a horrific murder case, arresting three individuals a day after a decapitated body was discovered in a local forest. The crime is reported to be an act of revenge for a past incident of public humiliation.

Body Found in Forest, Trio Nabbed

The grim discovery was made on the Kotrugada-Pokam forest stretch under the jurisdiction of the Goilkera police station. The victim was identified as Karinath Lugun, a 56-year-old resident of Kotrugada village. According to police, Lugun had attended a village fair on Monday. His journey back home turned fatal when he was intercepted by the accused.

The investigation moved rapidly, leading to the arrest of three persons on Wednesday. The officer in-charge of Goilkera police station, Vikrant Munda, provided chilling details of the motive and execution. "Lugun publicly humiliated Gomia Honhaga a few weeks ago. Honhaga planned the murder to take revenge and, with his friends, executed the crime," Munda stated.

Revenge Plot Unraveled

The police narrative outlines a premeditated attack. The three accused allegedly waylaid Karinath Lugun as he returned from the fair. They killed him and then proceeded to behead the body. In an attempt to conceal the crime, they stuffed the remains into a sack and dumped it in the forest area.

The arrested individuals have been named as Gomia Honhaga (21), Sripriyan Lugun (25), and Polus Manki (25). All are residents of Dakeda Vangram, which falls under the neighbouring Gudri police station. Police have also made a significant recovery, seizing two machetes believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

Investigation and Next Steps

Following the recovery, the body of Karinath Lugun was sent to Chakradharpur Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. This procedure is a standard part of the investigative process in such serious crimes and will help establish further forensic evidence.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local communities in the Kolhan region. The police action within a day of finding the body highlights the focus on the case. The investigation is ongoing as authorities look to solidify the charges against the accused based on the evidence collected, including the weapons and statements.
