Balasore: Three individuals in their 20s were detained on Monday, following the alleged gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl in a village in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday. The primary accused, aged 20, remains at large.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim's family, the minor and her elder sister had gone to a village pond when four youths allegedly abducted the younger girl, administered intoxicants, and sexually assaulted her before abandoning her near the village. The family searched for her for hours and later found her unconscious after nearly eight hours.
She was rushed to Rairangpur hospital, where doctors reported her condition as stable. Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on the complaint filed by the girl's father and sister.
Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Kumar Gochhayat stated that preliminary investigation suggests the survivor's male friend was involved. “The motorcycle used in the crime has been seized. The prime accused and another accomplice are absconding,” he said. Police revealed that the survivor and her sister had gone out with male acquaintances on motorcycles. While the elder sister stayed back with her companion, the minor went with her friend into a nearby forest. When she did not return, others went home. Later in the evening, the accused allegedly dropped her near the village and fled.
