Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Three Police Officers in Chitradurga
A devastating road accident near Heggare in Chitradurga district resulted in the immediate deaths of three reserve sub-inspectors and left two other police officers critically injured. The collision occurred on the Bengaluru-Ballari Road early Sunday morning when the officers' car crashed into a truck.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The tragic incident took place around 7am near the Prakash Sponge Iron Company, within the jurisdiction of the Aimangala police station. According to police reports, five police officers were traveling in a car from Bengaluru to Ballari to attend a wedding event when the accident occurred.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely crushed. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have dozed off during the early morning journey, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash at high speed into the back of a truck.
Victims and Injuries
The three reserve sub-inspectors who died on the spot were identified as Manjunath from Gangavati, Amarish from Sindhanur, and Sachin Thirthahalli. All five officers worked in VIP security in Bengaluru.
The two injured officers, PSI Ishwar and RSI Mahantesh, sustained severe injuries in the collision. One of them was in critical condition and was immediately admitted to Basaveshwara Hospital in Chitradurga for emergency treatment. The other injured officer also received treatment in the intensive care unit at the same hospital.
Police Response and Investigation
Challakere police visited the accident scene for inspection after learning about the incident. A case has been registered at Challakere police station, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Chitradurga SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru provided additional details, stating, "All were going to Ballari from Bengaluru to attend a wedding and their car hit a parked truck." The statement clarifies that the truck involved in the collision was stationary at the time of impact.
