Prayagraj: In a decisive action against negligence, IG (Prayagraj range) Ajay Mishra on Thursday suspended three policemen posted in Fatehpur on charges of dereliction of duty. The suspension came after a report submitted by the Fatehpur ASP found the officers guilty of mishandling a robbery case.
Details of the Suspension
The suspended officials include SHO (Kishanpur) Bacche Lal Prasad, station officer (Khakhreru) Vidhya Prakash Singh, and Vijaypur police outpost in-charge SI Dheerendra Pandey. The inquiry revealed their negligence in handling a robbery incident that occurred on June 1 on the Pauli–Sudhwapur village road under the Khakhreru police station limits.
The Robbery Incident
According to the IG, four armed miscreants on two motorcycles robbed a cattle trader, Shamshad, a resident of Naraini village, of Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and a mobile phone. The victim is engaged in the cattle trade and was targeted while traveling.
During the investigation, it was found that SI Dheerendra Pandey, despite personally inspecting the crime scene on the day of the incident, neither informed his seniors—SHO Kishanpur and SO Khakhreru—nor other senior police officials. He reportedly briefed the SHO concerned about the sequence of events the following day, but no action was initiated subsequently.
Action Taken
When the IG came to know about the alleged negligence of the three police officials, he directed the ASP to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a report. Based on the findings, the IG suspended the three officers for dereliction of duty. The suspension serves as a stern warning against negligence in handling criminal cases, especially those involving serious offenses like robbery.
The IG emphasized that such lapses will not be tolerated and that strict action will be taken against any officer found negligent in their duties. The suspended officials are now facing departmental proceedings.
