Three Women Killed, Three Injured in Horrific Hapur Highway Accident
A tragic road accident on National Highway-334 in Hapur district has claimed the lives of three women and left three others, including a minor boy, seriously injured. The incident occurred near a roadside eatery under the jurisdiction of the Hafizpur police station.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident took place around 5 PM on Thursday evening. According to police reports, a speeding car traveling from the Hapur side allegedly went out of control and rammed into a group of people who were waiting for transport near the eatery. The impact was severe, resulting in immediate fatalities and critical injuries.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Sitara Devi (60) and Saroj Sharma (55), both residents of Brajnathpur in Hapur, who died on the spot.
- Sharda Devi (60), who had come to drop her daughter and grandchildren at their in-laws' house in Naraina village. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment at the hospital.
Injured Victims and Their Condition
The injured include Sharda Devi's daughter, Ruby (32), and her two children, Lavish (6) and Khushi (9). All three sustained serious injuries in the collision.
"The bodies were sent for post-mortem while the injured were admitted to the hospital. Lavish is in a critical state. Ruby and Khushi were discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary treatment," stated Additional SP Vineet Kumar.
Arrest and Legal Action Against the Driver
Police have arrested the accused driver, identified as Naresh Kumar (54), a native of Meerut. An FIR has been registered against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving or driving on a public way), and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).
"The car rammed into the divider after hitting the women and was apprehended by local residents. Naresh Kumar's wife and daughter were also present in the car at the time of the accident. Kumar is an ex-serviceman and currently employed with the Indian Railways. He was produced before a court and sent to jail on Friday," explained Station House Officer Praveen Kumar.
Aftermath and Investigation
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families on Friday morning following the completion of post-mortem procedures. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
This incident highlights the grave consequences of negligent and rash driving on busy national highways, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and enhanced road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
