TMC Files HC Petition Alleging Observer Met BJP Candidate, Raises Neutrality Concerns
TMC Files HC Petition Over Observer Meeting BJP Candidate

The Trinamool Congress has approached the Calcutta High Court with a writ petition alleging “serious misconduct” by IPS officer Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, who was appointed as a Police Observer for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

According to the petition, the officer allegedly held an undisclosed and unofficial meeting with BJP candidate Gour Ghosh from the 142-Magrahat Paschim constituency — an area under his jurisdiction. TMC has questioned the neutrality of the observer, calling the alleged interaction a violation of established election norms.

The plea further claims that despite being officially allotted accommodation at the IPS Mess in Alipore, the officer stayed at a tourist lodge in Diamond Harbour on April 20, where the meeting is said to have taken place. CCTV footage of the alleged meeting has reportedly been submitted as evidence in the petition.

TMC argues that such conduct undermines the principles of neutrality, transparency, and institutional integrity, and erodes public confidence in the electoral process. The matter is now before the Calcutta High Court, and further developments are awaited.
