A police officer has alleged that Sudip Polley, the arrested chairperson of Borough 16 from Trinamool Congress, demanded Rs 3 lakh to permit construction work on land purchased in Haridevpur. Based on the officer's complaint, an extortion case has been registered against Polley at the Haridevpur police station.
Second Case Filed Against Polley
In a separate development, another case has been filed against the arrested municipal representative, charging him with attempt to murder. Kolkata Police registered this new case at Thakurpukur Police Station following an alleged extortion attempt and assault that left a man with severe head injuries.
Complainant's Account
Palash Samadder, 34, a resident of Purbachal under Haridevpur police station limits, filed a written complaint. According to Samadder, the incident occurred on June 23 last year. He alleged that the named persons, including Polley and others, demanded Rs 3 lakh and threatened to kill him. He further claimed that they struck him from behind on the head with a bamboo stick, causing him to collapse. Samadder was taken to Vidyasagar State General Hospital and later referred to SSKM Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
Earlier Custody and Another Allegation
Earlier on Sunday, Polley was remanded to six days of police custody by the court in another attempt to murder case. Lalbazar stated that Polley will be taken into custody in the case filed at Haridevpur police station. According to police records, Lalkamal Chandra (33), a resident of Vidyasagar Colony, alleged that on or before March this year, the accused demanded Rs 5 lakh from him to allow continuation of his business. It was further alleged that when Chandra failed to pay, Polley, along with his associates, assaulted the complainant on James Long Sarani and also damaged his shop.
