TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee Booked After Woman Loses Leg

Third FIR Filed Against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has been booked in a third case related to alleged irregularities at Sebaashray health camps, following a complaint from a woman who lost her leg after treatment for knee pain. The Diamond Harbour MP launched the Sebaashray initiative on January 2, 2026, when the Trinamool Congress was in power in West Bengal. Two earlier FIRs had already been filed against him in connection with alleged irregularities at these camps.

Woman's Complaint Details Medical Negligence

The latest FIR was registered after Maloti Biswas, a resident of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, complained to the police a few days ago. According to the complaint, Biswas attended a Sebaashray camp a couple of months ago with knee pain and was prescribed medicines. After her condition deteriorated, she approached another Sebaashray camp, where doctors allegedly demanded a large sum of money for treatment. When she declined to pay, she was referred to a government hospital.

Biswas was admitted to a government medical college hospital, where doctors determined that the damage to her right leg was irreversible. Her leg was subsequently amputated, according to her police complaint. An official at the Rabindranagar police station confirmed that an FIR had been registered against Banerjee and others based on the complaint, and further investigation is under way.

Background of Sebaashray Initiative

The Sebaashray initiative, launched by Abhishek Banerjee on January 2, 2026, was intended to provide healthcare outreach to underserved communities in West Bengal. The program has faced scrutiny following allegations of medical negligence and irregularities. The first two FIRs were filed earlier, though details of those cases have not been disclosed. The third complaint highlights severe consequences, including amputation, allegedly due to substandard care at the camps.

Banerjee, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress, has not yet commented on the latest allegations. The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
