Communal Tension Erupts in Tonk Over Family Rivalry
Tension gripped Tonk city on Tuesday night following a violent clash between two neighboring families from different communities in the Sanghpura Mohalla area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Purani Tonk police station. The incident escalated into stone-pelting, resulting in injuries and the filing of cross-FIRs by both parties.
Root Cause and Escalation
Police officials stated that the violence stemmed from an old rivalry between the two families, reportedly triggered by disputes over car parking and other longstanding issues. The situation quickly escalated into a physical assault, drawing a large crowd and creating significant tension in the locality for an extended period.
Senior police officials, along with teams from three city police stations, rushed to the spot and deployed heavy force to prevent further escalation and restore order. Two persons injured in the incident were admitted to a local hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
Legal Actions and Police Response
Tonk Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Meena confirmed that cases were registered from both sides. One FIR includes sections of the SC-ST Act based on a complaint by one party, while the other has been filed under assault and related charges. One youth from each side has been detained and is being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
SP Meena appealed to residents not to pay heed to rumours, emphasizing that the situation was now peaceful and under control. He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to address all aspects of the clash.
Political Condemnation and Broader Context
Meanwhile, Tonk BJP district president Chandraveer Singh Chauhan condemned the incident, alleging that miscreants attacked in a mob-like manner. He demanded strict action against those involved to ensure justice and prevent such occurrences in the future.
The incident occurred during the festive period of Holi and the ongoing month of Ramzan, adding a sensitive layer to the communal dynamics. Authorities are working diligently to maintain harmony and prevent any further disturbances in the area.
