Stranded Tourists Laud UAE's Rapid Response as Airspace Closures Disrupt Travel
Tourists left stranded in the Gulf region following widespread airspace closures amid the escalating Iran–Israel conflict have expressed gratitude and praise for the swift assistance provided by United Arab Emirates authorities. The disruptions, triggered by regional tensions and security alerts, have impacted thousands of travelers, with many sharing positive experiences of support during the crisis.
Indian Influencer Shares Personal Account of Airport Stranding
Among those affected is an Indian content creator who blogs under the pseudonym The iPad Info. He recounted his family's experience after being stuck at Abu Dhabi International Airport over the weekend. "We came to UAE last week and were supposed to travel back to Bangalore on Saturday," he explained. "At the airport, we came to know that all flights were cancelled. There were sirens and we received an alert on our phones to find shelter."
He detailed how authorities quickly stepped in to provide essential aid. "A few hours later, they gave us free food and hotel vouchers," he said, adding that his family was transported to accommodation via school bus. He commended the staff as "very supportive" and noted that flight vouchers were extended for free due to the ongoing airspace closure. "I loved how the UAE authorities were so considerate towards travellers. It is the most supportive country I have been in," he emphasized.
Tourist Expresses Full Faith in UAE Government Amid Uncertainty
Another tourist, Suzna, arrived in Dubai on February 15 with her family for a birthday celebration and was scheduled to return home on Sunday. However, she now faces uncertainty about her travel plans. "My younger brother left on Friday, and my uncle and aunt were supposed to leave on Saturday. My mother and I had some last-minute shopping, so we decided to stay on until Sunday," she shared.
She described receiving a call from her brother about flight cancellations while shopping, initially not grasping the full impact. "All our flights were cancelled and refunds had been issued," she noted. Sheltering in a serviced apartment booked until Monday noon, she called it a "scary experience" but expressed confidence in the government. "Despite the fear, I have full faith in the UAE government. I know that they will make sure we are safe. We have been travelling in and out of Dubai for several years now and we know how safe a place it is," she affirmed.
UAE Authorities Activate Comprehensive Emergency Support Plans
The UAE has implemented extensive measures to assist the thousands of travelers stranded by the flight cancellations. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced the activation of emergency aviation support plans, covering all accommodation, meal, and rebooking costs for passengers affected by the regional airspace closures.
Key provisions include:
- Temporary accommodation organized near airport hubs for stranded travelers.
- Access to meals, beverages, and refreshment services during the wait for updates.
- Free extensions and rebooking of flight vouchers as airspace remains closed.
The authority estimates that approximately 20,200 passengers have been impacted by flight rescheduling so far, highlighting the scale of the disruption. This proactive response underscores the UAE's commitment to passenger welfare during international crises, earning commendation from those caught in the travel chaos.
As the conflict continues to affect regional aviation, travelers remain hopeful for a swift resolution, bolstered by the supportive measures in place. The experiences shared by stranded tourists reflect a broader narrative of resilience and effective crisis management in the face of geopolitical tensions.
