In preparation for the upcoming Thaipoosam festival, the Coimbatore city police have implemented a comprehensive traffic diversion plan affecting Marudhamalai Road. This measure is set to be in effect from Friday at 8 AM until Monday at midnight to facilitate the smooth conduct of the festivities at the revered Marudhamalai Subramaniaswamy Temple.
Detailed Traffic Diversion Routes
To manage the expected influx of devotees and vehicles, specific routes have been designated for different types of traffic. All government and private buses, along with two-wheelers and four-wheelers heading towards Marudhamalai from the Lawley Road roundabout, must follow a prescribed path. This involves turning left at the Vadavalli-Thondamuthur road junction and proceeding via Maharani Avenue, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, and Arun Nagar. Subsequently, a right turn at the Ajjanur junction will lead vehicles to Marudhamalai via Bommannampalayam Road and Kalveerampalayam.
Parking and Temporary Facilities
A temporary bus stand has been established at Bharathiar University gate number II to accommodate the boarding and alighting of passengers. This location also provides parking facilities for private buses, ensuring organized and safe transit for festival-goers. For light motor vehicles, travel is restricted to Thailakkadu at the foothills of Marudhamalai, with parking permitted only in designated areas to maintain order and safety.
Alternative Routes for Various Directions
Vehicles approaching Marudhamalai from Thadagam Road via the Idayarpalayam Junction and Vadavalli roundabout are required to turn right at the Vadavalli-Thondamuthur Road Junction and proceed via Kalveerampalayam Junction. Similarly, those coming from Thadagam Road through Kanuvai, Teachers Colony, and Kalappanaickenpalayam to Navavoor Junction must reach the Vadavalli roundabout via Idayarpalayam Road, turn right at Thondamuthur Road Junction, and continue to Marudhamalai via Kalveerampalayam Junction.
For vehicles traveling from Thondamuthur towards Coimbatore city via Siruvani Road, a right turn at Ajjanur Junction and Bommannampalayam Junction is necessary. They should then proceed via Vedapatti and Poosaripalayam Road to reach Thadagam Road before continuing to their final destinations.
Entry and Exit Regulations
Vehicles entering Coimbatore city from the foothills of Marudhamalai are directed to reach Kalveerampalayam Junction, Navavoor Junction, and Vadavalli roundabout, after which they can follow their usual routes. To ensure safety and minimize congestion, light and heavy goods vehicles are prohibited from using Marudhamalai–Vadavalli Road via Thadagam Road–Lawley Road Junction, Idayarpalayam Road, Vadavalli roundabout, and Thondamuthur Road. This restriction will be enforced from Friday at 6 AM until Monday.
The police have urged all commuters and devotees to adhere to these traffic regulations to ensure a hassle-free and secure festival experience. The diversions are part of a broader effort to manage the large crowds expected during the Thaipoosam celebrations, which attract thousands of pilgrims to the Marudhamalai Subramaniaswamy Temple annually.
