A routine traffic enforcement drive on Rajkot's 150 Foot Ring Road escalated into a criminal case after a traffic policeman was allegedly threatened for detaining a dumper that lacked numberplates. The Gandhigram police have booked the accused and his accomplices.
Incident Details
On Monday, traffic branch Sector 4 Police Inspector S D Gilwa was on patrol with his team near Parshuram Chowkdi on 150 Foot Ring Road. They stopped a dumper that was operating without numberplates and valid documents. The police decided to impound the vehicle and move it to the Sheetal Park Towing Station.
While the dumper was being impounded, a black Thar and a rider on a Splendor motorcycle blocked its path near Sheetal Park Chowk. According to the First Information Report (FIR), one Munno Kothiwar of the Para Pipaliya area stepped out of the Thar and began arguing with the police personnel.
Threats Issued
Kothiwar allegedly threatened the police officers, stating that if they detained the vehicle, he would not allow them to work in Rajkot and would remove their belt and cap. After issuing these threats, he left the spot. The police personnel later reached the towing station and impounded the dumper.
Legal Action
The incident was recorded in the station diary and reported to senior officers. Following instructions from higher authorities, Gilwa filed a complaint at Gandhigram police station against Munno Kothiwar and an unidentified accomplice under Sections 221, 224, 351(2) and 54 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty, causing delay in public work, and issuing criminal threats.
Investigation Underway
Police teams are actively searching for the accused and have begun further investigation into the case. Authorities are taking the matter seriously to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel and the smooth execution of their duties.
