Chennai: A traffic sub-inspector sustained injuries after being assaulted by a history-sheeter during a routine vehicle inspection in Perambur on Monday evening. The suspect, identified as Shyam alias Suresh Babu, 21, a resident of Vyasarpadi, is listed as a category-C rowdy.
Incident Details
The incident occurred around 5 pm on Madhavaram High Road when Traffic Sub-Inspector Tharick Ahamed, 32, attached to the Sembium Traffic Enforcement Wing, along with Constable Rajkumar, was conducting checks against one-way traffic violations.
According to the complaint, two men approached the checkpoint on a scooter. Police reported that Shyam, who was riding pillion, kicked the sub-inspector from behind while the vehicle was in motion. The impact caused Tharick Ahamed to lose his balance and crash into a parked mini-truck, resulting in a minor forehead injury.
The scooter rider also lost control and collided with another vehicle before abandoning the two-wheeler and fleeing the scene. Since the suspect sustained injuries in the incident, an ambulance was called. However, Shyam, who was intoxicated, refused medical assistance. His family later arrived at the scene and took him away.
Legal Action
Based on the officer's complaint, a case has been registered against the suspect. Further investigation is underway.
