Out-of-Control Goods Train Crashes into SUV at Bokaro Thermal Power Plant, Driver's Narrow Escape Prevents Casualties

A serious incident unfolded early Sunday morning at the Bokaro Thermal Power Plant, where a goods train went out of control and violently collided with an SUV parked near a railway gate. The accident occurred around 7 am, but miraculously, no casualties were reported due to the quick actions of the SUV driver.

Immediate Response and Investigation Launched

Following the mishap, a swift response team including police, railway officials, and CISF personnel arrived at the scene. Key figures such as Officer in-charge Pinku Kumar Yadav from the Bokaro Thermal police station and station manager Shailesh Kumar conducted a thorough inspection of the site. Authorities have initiated a probe against the train driver, identified as A Kumar, for alleged violations of safety protocols. Railway officials are currently examining potential lapses in handling and coordination that may have contributed to the incident.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Collision

The goods train had entered the plant premises around 4 am for the purpose of unloading coal. After completing its operations, the rake unexpectedly broke through an internal gate and began rolling forward at high speed. It struck an SUV parked adjacent to the tracks, dragging the vehicle for nearly 500 meters before coming to a halt. The train only stopped after a portion of the rake derailed, highlighting the severity of the impact.

Driver's Harrowing Account of the Incident

The SUV driver, Amardeep, recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the collision. He stated, "I had no time to react. I jumped out at the last moment to save my life. My car was completely destroyed in front of my eyes. Had there been even a slight delay, I would not have survived. There is a clear negligence on the part of the railway and rake management." His vehicle was completely damaged in the accident, but his timely escape prevented a potential tragedy.

Safety Concerns and Ongoing Scrutiny

This incident raises significant concerns about safety measures at industrial and railway facilities. The investigation will focus on:

  • Adherence to operational protocols during train movements within the plant.
  • Coordination between railway staff and plant authorities.
  • Measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As the probe continues, stakeholders are urged to review and reinforce safety norms to avert such close calls in the future.
