Transgender Woman Found Dead in West Champaran; Police Investigate Suspicious Hanging

In a tragic incident that has raised concerns, a 30-year-old transgender woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the Dumwaliya locality of Bagaha town, West Champaran district, on Saturday morning. The deceased, identified as Renu Devi, originally hailed from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh.

Discovery of the Body

According to local residents, the door to Renu Devi's rented room remained closed for an extended period on Saturday morning. Despite repeated attempts by neighbors to knock and call out, there was no response from inside. Growing increasingly worried, the neighbors promptly alerted Dial 112, the emergency police service.

A police team swiftly arrived at the scene and informed the Patkhauli police station. Patkhauli Station House Officer Hridayanand Singh stated that upon receiving the information, officers rushed to the location. "The room was locked from the inside. When we forced the door open, we discovered the body hanging," he explained. Senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kumar Kaushal, were immediately notified of the situation.

Police Investigation Underway

A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team later visited the site to collect crucial evidence. The body was subsequently sent to the subdivisional hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Police revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Renu Devi had been residing alone in the rented accommodation for the past two to three months.

Authorities have taken the house owner into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Additionally, another transgender individual named Laila, who lives in a nearby room, is being interrogated to gather more information. While the initial appearance suggests a possible suicide, police emphasized that the exact cause of death will only be determined after the post-mortem report is received. The investigation is proceeding with all possible angles being thoroughly examined.

Community Response and Background

In a related development, Bablu Kinnar, associated with a local transgender group, clarified that the deceased was not affiliated with their community. "Our group members reside in their own houses under the guidance of our guru, Hemlata," he stated, distancing the organization from the incident.

This case has drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by transgender individuals in the region, highlighting the need for thorough and sensitive handling by law enforcement. The police are committed to uncovering the truth behind this distressing event, ensuring that justice is served and all aspects of the case are meticulously scrutinized.
