Trichy Burglary Spree: Gold, Cash, and Valuables Stolen from Two Neighboring Homes

In a brazen act of theft, unidentified burglars targeted two neighboring houses in the Mela Kalkandarkottai area of Trichy district on Thursday, making off with a significant haul of gold, cash, and other valuables. The incidents have left residents alarmed and prompted a swift police investigation into what appears to be a coordinated crime spree.

First Home Targeted: V Baskar's Residence

The burglary came to light when V Baskar, a 57-year-old resident of Alli Street in Vivekanandhar Nagar Extension, returned home from work around 7:40 PM on Thursday. To his shock, he found the locks of his house broken, indicating forced entry. Upon stepping inside, Baskar discovered that a bureau had been thoroughly ransacked.

Police officials have estimated the total value of these stolen goods to be approximately Rs 20,000, highlighting the financial impact on the victim.

Second Home Burgled: Jabeen Begam's Property

In a similar and likely connected incident, Baskar's neighbor, 59-year-old Jabeen Begam, returned from a trip to Chennai on Thursday evening to find her house had also been burgled. The culprits had gained unauthorized access and made off with a more substantial cache of valuables.

The loot from Jabeen Begam's residence comprised:

  1. Various gold ornaments, including earrings and coins
  2. Multiple silver items
  3. Foreign currency, specifically Saudi Riyal
  4. Rs 3,000 in Indian cash

Authorities have placed the total estimated value of the stolen items from this home at a staggering Rs 76,000, bringing the combined loss from both burglaries to nearly Rs 1 lakh.

Police Investigation and Suspicions

Golden Rock police, who are handling the case, have registered separate cases for each burglary and launched a thorough investigation. Based on preliminary findings and the proximity of the crimes, investigators strongly suspect that the same gang is responsible for both thefts. The modus operandi—targeting neighboring houses in a short timeframe—suggests a planned operation by experienced criminals.

Police are currently examining evidence from both scenes, including any potential forensic clues, and are reviewing local surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators. They have also increased patrols in the Mela Kalkandarkottai area to reassure residents and prevent further incidents.

This burglary spree underscores ongoing concerns about property crime in urban areas and highlights the need for heightened security measures among homeowners. As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in apprehending those responsible.
