The adult accused have been identified as P Manikanda Boopathy, aged 24, and T Thiruppathi, aged 25, both residents of Kodumbapatti village in Marungapuri taluk. According to police reports, both men are employed as cooks. The incident occurred on April 8, when Boopathy celebrated his birthday with friends from the same village.
During the celebration, Boopathy reportedly used a machete to cut a cake in a public area, while Thiruppathi and others recorded the act on video. The individuals also posed with the machete, showcasing the weapon in a manner that authorities deemed reckless and unlawful.

The men created multiple reels from the footage and uploaded them to social media, where the video quickly went viral. This widespread attention soon alerted the Trichy police. Following directives from Trichy Superintendent of Police S Selvanagarathinam, the Valanadu police registered a formal case against the accused.
The charges were filed under sections 20 and 25(1-A) of the Arms Act, which pertain to offences involving carrying prohibited arms and carrying arms under suspicious circumstances.
